I have a variety of experiences ranging from working in a residential treatment facility for at risk teens, school based counseling, working for the Day Treatment program in Routt County as a therapist, Program Director of a small non-profit providing therapy for families and children, providing Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation, Pyramid Plus coaching to parents and caregivers, and being in private practice.

I am certified to provide Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) by the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (www.eagala.org).  I can use EAP to work with individuals, teens older children, couples, and families.

I am not your run of the mill counselor that will sit and ask, “How do you feel about that?” I have been trained in and am becoming certified in Synergetic Play Therapy (SPT). SPT is a new and cutting edge model of play therapy designed to re-pattern the disorganization in the lower brain centers, areas that are often unadressed in many current play therapy models. This research based approach focuses heavily on the projective process, affect attunement, attachment, and nervous system regulation. I see clients goals and struggles in terms of regulation states/patterns and attachment. I transfer skills and theoretical foundations from SPT when I work with teens, adults, families, and parents.

I always begin new relationships with teens and adults by explaining the latest neurobiological research by Dr. Bruce Perry and Dr. Dan Siegel in layman’s terms based onhow the brain works. You could sat that I put Interpersonal Neurobiology to practice in the therapy setting. Being a licensed school counselor, I believe strongly in not only focusing on the client as the identified patient but on the system that the client lives within (family, school, teachers, peers, work) and believe consultation and case-management is central to creating a high impact with lasting change.
